L Restaurant & Bar - 2 Abingdon Road

Dominated by a stunning church backdrop, the bright, innovative L Restaurant and Bar is housed within a glass-ceiling building. It is a light, airy modern space with cream walls, modern art and lots of glass radiating a lustrous brightness. Located just off the High Street, the restaurant is a firm favourite of Kensington and Chelsea residents. Cuisine is an exquisite fusion of modern European dishes with a generous and hearty emphasis on well-sourced Spanish ingredients. Since opening in 2006 the restaurant has received strong praise and recognition by winning 'Best Tapas at UK Best Dishes' awards held by Restaurant Magazine. The tender grilled squid with salty padron peppers and rocket or the grilled lemon chilli squid with piquillo peppers and courgette flower tempura stuffed with beetroot, mozzarella and anchovies followed by crumbly goat's cheese ice-cream with walnuts and honey are highly recommended favourites. For something lighter, fried baby squid, garlic prawns, beef croquettes are featured on the tapas list along with a superb wine list from Italy, France and Spain.

Le Cafe Anglais - 8 Porchester Gardens

A new venture for the legendary Rowley Leigh, former head chef at Le Poulbot and Kensington Place, this 170 seater restaurant, said to be named after the famous 19th century Paris restaurant, is situated at the top of Whiteleys Shopping Centre in Bayswater. The private entrance to Le Cafe Anglais is in Porchester Gardens where a lift takes diners up to the restaurant and its magnificent views across Hyde Park. The decor is that of a rich 1920s Parisian style with curving grey leather banquettes, pale-amber Art Deco style lampshades, creams and beiges and long, sweeping dark red satin hangings all giving the atmosphere and feel of a luxury liner. Creating a sense of theatre is the giant rotisserie which is located centre stage of the open-plan kitchen, and thereby enabling diners to become personally involved with the culinary process of their meal.

Hereford Road - 3 Hereford Road

The main priority of English chef and co-founder Tom Pemberton was to provide the area with affordable and yet high quality British food that could be enjoyed in an informal and relaxed environment. The result is Hereford Road, a former butcher's shop in Victorian times, which opened in October 2007. The restaurant is a stylish and split-level establishment featuring an open kitchen immediately by the front door, with small banquette tables running parallel to the kitchen and the remaining 64 seats occupying a few steps below at the rear of the building. The huge domed skylight above creates a light and airy atmosphere in which diners can enjoy the culinary delights of whole-hearted, robust, simple British fare ensuring the use of the vast wealth of the country's seasonal produce. Hereford Road is open for lunch and dinner every day, with lunch from 12pm, last orders taken at 3pm, and dinner from 6pm, when last orders are at 10.30pm.
